Montana Road Trip Expedition 2: A Journey through Rivers

The Montana road trip adventure kicked off at the Bozeman airport, where we gathered everyone and headed to our basecamp in Ennis. After settling in and getting our fishing licenses, we were eager to hit the famous 3 Dollar Bridge, armed with salmon flies and lessons in knot tying and casting. Excitement buzzed in the air as we anticipated the upcoming days, hoping to capitalize on aggressive fish.

Madison River: First Fishing Excursion
The next day, we floated the upper Madison, exploring its waters and practicing our newly learned fly fishing techniques. The salmon flies were out in force, and everyone was catching fish. The camaraderie grew as we enjoyed afternoon tube floats and evenings filled with delicious quesadillas and friendly competitions of foosball and ping pong.

Ruby River: A Change of Scenery
We split the group for a couple of days: one half waded the Ruby River while the other floated the Madison. Both rivers offered unique experiences, with the Ruby producing great action through various fishing techniques like hopper-dropper setups and streamers. The excitement continued as we all landed fish, enjoying the tranquility of Montana's stunning waters.

Madison Again: Peak Fishing Season
Returning to the Madison, we capitalized on the peak fishing conditions. The salmon flies still made an appearance, and we took full advantage of the abundant fishing opportunities. With everyone improving their skills, the atmosphere was electric with success and laughter.

Bighorn River: The Grand Finale
After our time on the Madison, we journeyed east to the Bighorn River in Fort Smith, known for its incredible trout fishing. We set up camp near the battlefield of the Battle of the Bighorn and spent the next couple of days fishing this renowned river. The cool, clear waters provided a perfect escape from the heat wave, with successful fishing days complemented by relaxing floats and memorable evening meals, including smash burgers and sunset views.

The Montana road trip ended on a high note, filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable fishing experiences.
